Notes

  • Increasing exposure to payment and insurance companies in Europe, especially in relatively capital-friendly jurisdictions such as Austria.
  • Continued to increase exposure to BMNR and added SBET, adding to Ethereum proxies in general. There has been a small rally in cryptocurrencies this week, but the recovery has been minimal compared to the huge underperformance in the past year.
  • Central banks around the world have continued to increase the benchmark rates this year, as BOJ has hiked to 1% (highest since 1995) and ECB has hiked 25 bps for its first rate hike in three years. Although other central banks (such as Fed or BoE) have held steady for now, they are expected to also be on a hike path at least for the latter part of this year.
  • Semiconductors took a beating this week, falling 6.7% even during a holiday-shortened week. SK Hynix dropped more than 20% for the week on an intraday basis on Friday, before rebounding slightly to end down around 10% for this week.
  • Software stocks continued its inverse correlation to semiconductors, as IGV rose 6.1% this week.
  • On June 30th, Open Standard officially unveiled Open USD, which is a consortium-governed stablecoin backed by more than 100 major institutions. This confirms the notion that on-chain transactions will be backed by secure custody from regulated financial institutions. Companies such as Coinbase and Anchorage Digital look to benefit, while each region will have member financial institutions that assure backing and provide use cases. USDC usage will eventually decrease tremendously, while USDT will also be affected by this new stablecoin. The US government will now have an official outlet in terms of demand for new long-dated government bonds.
